Target Area Development Corporation Discusses Community Violence Intervention Tactics to Prevent Trauma
Dozens of residents, stakeholders, faith-based leaders and representatives from Alderman David Moore’s office joined Target Area Development Corporation on August 30 for a comprehensive presentation on their Community Violence Intervention (CVI) work in Englewood, West Englewood and Auburn Gresham.
Target Area COO and Internal Executive Director Dr. MJ Stanford and External Executive Director Joshua Coakley were featured speakers. Their discussion centered around the importance of CVI and the biggest risks to its sustainability.
“CVI addresses the root of violence by taking off the mask of what has been haunting many communities. Community Violence Intervention helps to prevent repeated traumas of the past and leads us into a better informed future,” said Dr. Stanford.
Coakley closed the event with a compelling call to action for the audience, “Don’t turn your back on safety, if it’s unsafe, do something! When we invest in our communities we will see an investment on our return. Continue to invest in CVI.”
