ONE Northside Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary at Annual North Star Gala
North Star, a celebration of the 10th anniversary of ONE Northside and the ONE People’s Campaign, two grassroots organizations that work for racial, social, and economic justice in Chicago, was held on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the Sister Jean Ballroom at Loyola University. More than 200 guests attended the fundraising event, which featured an engaging program, live music, food and drinks, and awards.
“We are at a moment in Chicago’s history where we’ve learned what it takes to build people power,” said ONE Northside Executive Director Jesse Hoyt as he saluted attendees for their commitment and ongoing support. “We are celebrating how much we have accomplished in 10 years and celebrating the future we are building together in the years to come.”
The program was hosted by special guest emcee, Alderwoman Angela Clay (46th Ward), who praised the achievements and impact of ONE Northside and the ONE People’s Campaign. She also highlighted ONE Northside’s Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P) engagement.
“I gotta give a shout out to our Communities Partnering 4 Peace program. We have fought hard to make sure this program exists on the north side to help provide intensive case management support and other programming to interrupt the cycle of violence. Our team is leading the way, brokering peace treaties and providing innovative programming for young people at risk of violence on the north side. Let’s make some noise for our CP4P team,” said Alderwoman Clay.
The evening also honored two outstanding supporters with inaugural leadership awards. The “Reverend Barbara Bolsen Values in Action Award” was given to Beth Rochford, a longtime member and leader of ONE Northside, who has been involved in various campaigns and actions for affordable housing, mental health, and education. The “Carlos Cardenas Courageous Leadership Award,” named to honor a vocal advocate for housing equity and healthcare access, was presented to ONE Northside Board Co-Chair Jessica Ames.
The event raised over $15,000 to fund additional outreach efforts.
