MFS and Community Partners Celebrate Mexican Independence Day

On Sunday, September 14, 2025, staff from Metropolitan Family Services (MFS) and Metropolitan Peace Initiatives (MPI), along with Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P) partners, marched in the annual Mexican Independence Day Parade held in Little Village. Stretching for two miles through the heart of the neighborhood’s business corridor, thousands of attendees lined the parade route, waving Mexican flags and exuding cultural pride.
Every September, parade spectators are treated to colorful floats, traditional folk dancers, mariachi bands, and a variety of organizations honoring the heritage and contributions of Chicago’s Mexican American community.
“Every time MFS and our partners stand in solidarity and celebrate alongside the communities we serve, it’s more than a show of support. It helps MFS foster trust, build relationships, and open doors for individuals who someday may need our services,” said MFS CEO Ric Estrada.
MFS proudly recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed from September 15 to October 15.
