Hundreds of Chicago Young People Take Peace Ambassador Pledge with UCAN Chicago

More than 200 young people recently made the “Peace Pledge” and have committed to be peacekeepers in their communities this summer through an initiative with UCAN Chicago. Partnering with GoodKids MadCity and more than 50 employer partners, the organization will connect these ambassadors with job opportunities, job shadowing, financial literacy training, civic engagement training, and more. The pledge ceremony came ahead of the July 4 holiday weekend, which saw a historic decline in violence across the city.

“I actually believe most of our children want to be a part of the solution,” said UCAN President and CEO Christa Hamilton. “They just might not know how, and this gives them the avenue and something very tangible to speak these words out loud.”
