Bureau of Justice Assistance Hosts Violent Crime Reduction Summit

The U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance hosted the Violent Crime Reduction Summit on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 in Indianapolis. The event was aimed at educating attendees on community violence intervention (CVI) initiatives being used across the country.

Speakers included Institute for Nonviolence Chicago Executive Director Teny Gross, Office of the Assistant Attorney General Senior Advisor Eddie Bocanegra, University of Chicago Crime Lab Director of Programs Kimberley Smith, and Community Based Public Safety Collective Co-founder Aqeela Sherrills.

Gross outlined how CVI works to build peace through guiding people involved in violence through their journey away from it, while mediating positive interactions between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
